Upgrades in Need for Speed: High Stakes are performance-improving customisation parts equipped to cars in the career mode.
In the PC release, upgrades are bought successionally towards improving a car's performance with numbered stages, which differs from the PlayStation release .
Players can upgrade their cars with one of three upgrade packages. Each package improves upon another with additional performance improvements:
Upgrade 1 : Improves handling by optimising the suspension
Upgrade 2 : Improves handling and top speed by optimising aerodynamics
Upgrade 3 : Improves top speed and braking by optimising engine performance and brakes
