The 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R is a high-performance model of the fourth generation "New Edge" Ford Mustang and was developed by Ford's Special Vehicle Team division, SVT. The Cobra R was sold without back seats or any luxury equipment for weight savings.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2Edit

The Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R appears in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 as a Class 3 car and as a Class C car in the PlayStation 2 release. It is also available as a police car in both games and is classed in the same tier as its racer counterpart.

As usual for most American cars in Hot Pursuit 2, the Cobra R possesses a slightly heavy steering, but also accelerates quicker than most cars within its performance range. It performs well in pursuits due to its durability and power.

The SVT Cobra R is available from start in every version of the game. The "NFS Edition" and police variant require 20,000 NFS Points to be unlocked.

In the PlayStation 2 release, the "NFS Edition" is unlocked upon collecting 500,000 NFS Points. The police variant for Challenge Mode and You're the Cop are unlocked by different ways;

• Challenge Mode: Complete Hot Pursuit Event 18.
• You're the Cop: Lead every lap in a Hot Pursuit Single Race.

Players may also unlock the pursuit variant in the PlayStation 2 release by pressing the following button sequence at the main menu: Left, Square, Left, Square, R2, R1, R2, R1.
