An Invitational Event is a feature shown in Need for Speed: Shift where the player gets sent a special event after winning certain races and getting a certain amount of XP. Invitational Events are special, including special tracks, cars that are not unlocked at an early stage, or just a great challenge. For example, in one challenge, there is a race only consisting of Bugatti Veyron 16.4s on the track Nürburgring. Invitational Events can be accessed by pressing the "Back" button or the button next to "Start", on the controller. Once they are rewarded, they never go away and can be raced at any time. Invitational Events include duels between certain car makers, time trials, and extreme races between car makers.
