The McLaren MP4-12C is a mid engined sports car designed to compete with the Ferrari 458 Italia. MP4 stands for McLaren Project 4 (Ron Dennis' merger with McLaren), '12' is the intern performance rank of the car in the company and 'C' is the abbreviation for Carbonfibre-MonoCell.

The car has a low weight thanks to its carbon fibre composite chassis. McLaren has also integrated Formula 1 techonlogy such as brake steering to reduce understeer.

Need for Speed: ShiftEdit

The McLaren MP4-12C became obtainable in the Exotic Racing Series Pack for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 releases of Need for Speed: Shift on March, 18th 2010. It is featured as a Tier 4 car with a Car Rating of 15.80.

Need for Speed: WorldEdit

The MP4-12C first appeared in Need for Speed: World as a Tier 3 car and became available in the car dealer on January 30th, 2012. Since August 22nd, 2012, the MP4-12C has been given a Class A rating.

The vehicle is upgraded with Amerikon Speedsystems street tuned parts as standard and costs SpeedBoost25,100. Its overall rating is measured by 744. It can receive a Class S rating upon equipping it with more effective upgrades.

The MP4-12C is a competitive Class A car focussed on handling, because of being capable of turning quickly. It does oversteer a little in corners but is manageable. Its nitrous boost has a great strength too. The MP4-12C has enough power to keep up with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and other high-performance Class A cars.

In seventh gear, the vehicle does feel less powerful, as its final gear is optimised for a high top speed. As a result, the MP4-12C reaches 212 mph (342 kmh) as maximum speed. With nitrous applied, it can hit 237 mph (382 kmh).

The car is suitable for any race type. In comparison with the Lotus Evora, it has more power. The MP4-12C is less recommended for pursuits, as its weight cannot sustain rammings well.

Special VariantsEdit

A special MP4-12C known as "Braiiiins" was released on October 19th, 2012. It has a Halloween inspired paint job, which features the silhoutte of zombies in a village. The name of the car is a reference to zombies and their preference for brains.

The Braiiiins variant is customised with several unique aftermarket parts such as a custom licence plate and body model, which includes a driver with a pumpkin as head. It is also capable of producing zombie sound effects in a similar way to Cop Edition cars. Players can activate it by pressing "K".

Because of being upgraded with Gromlen race tuned parts, it has an overall rating of 762 and a Class S rating. It also has two-star rated skill mods installed as standard. Players can purchase the Braiiiins variant for SpeedBoost25,400.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)Edit

The MP4-12C is featured in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) as an Exotic class Racer vehicle and as an SCPD Speed Enforcement unit.

The Racer variant will unlock upon the player earning 807,740 bounty in the Racer career and the SCPD unit will unlock upon the player earning 358,000 bounty in the police career.

The handling of the MP4-12C makes it competitive. Players can perform drifts easily with the car and thus gain a lot of nitrous power. It can successfully race against the Lamborghini Reventón but can be outmatched in terms of acceleration. Despite being listed as classified, the top speed for the MP4-12C in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) is 208 mph (335 km/h).

Shift 2: UnleashedEdit

The MP4-12C is featured in Shift 2: Unleashed as a Modern A class vehicle with an A 1620 performance index rating and 3.88 handling rating. It is unlocked after the player successfully completes the Modern A Invitational Event but cannot be bought in the car lot.

The MP4-12C can be unstable under heavy cornering. This is especially apparent in the Modern A Invitational Event, where the vehicle must be driven by the player in the Nordschleife. It is recommended not to accelerate during corner entry to avoid putting too much torque to the rear wheels.

Acceleration-wise, it slightly lacks to the Pagani Zonda F and the all-wheel drive Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4, but is able to keep up with its competitors, if driven properly.

The Speedhunters Pack also features a modified MP4-12C that is available for free in the car lot. It has an A 1970 performance index rating and reaches 219 mph (353 kmh) as top speed. The handling rating of the Speedhunters variant is 5.21.

Need for Speed: The RunEdit

The MP4-12C is one of the first cars of Need for Speed: The Run to be confirmed by EA. Screenshots of the car were available on launch of the title's website.

It appears as a Tier 5 vehicle in standard form with a Tier 5 "Fifty-Nine" Signature Edition and a Tier 6 Need for Speed Edition. They are unlocked by different means;

  • Tier 5 - Unlocked in The Run.
  • Tier 5 (Fifty-Nine) - Rare Bonus Wheel Reward.
  • Tier 6 (NFS Edition) - Beat 50 Autolog recommendations.

Both the standard variant and Fifty Nine Signature Edition have a "Normal" handling rating and share identical performance traits. They are decent performers due to a good acceleration.

The most powerful variant of the MP4-12C, the NFS Edition, produces 822bhp @ 7,900 rpm and reaches a 247 mph (397 km/h) top speed. Like the Tier 5 versions, it has a powerful acceleration (0-60 mph in 2.9s). Its handling is rated "Challenging".

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012)Edit

The MP4-12C was revealed to be featured in Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) during a gameplay demo at EA's 2012 Gamescom Conference. It appeared as an AI controlled rival.

It was officially revealed to be a featured vehicle via the official Need for Speed Facebook feed on September 12th, 2012.

The MP4-12C appears in the final release as an Exotic classed vehicle. It is unlocked upon defeating Most Wanted List racer #6 in singleplayer and unlocked upon reaching a certain SpeedLevel in multiplayer.

It is one of the best handling cars in the Exotic class due to great steering feedback and traction. The MP4-12C is capable of keeping up with more powerful cars such as the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 in corners and can become competitive to stronger vehicles like the Koenigsegg Agera R, if performance enhancing Pro mods are installed.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) (Mobile)Edit

The McLaren MP4-12C is available in the mobile release of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) as an Exotic. The car is balanced in all three stats and will cost the player $750,000 to add to their garage. There is an "NFS Edition" available for $2,000,000, which improves all categories of the car with an emphasis on acceleration.

TriviaEdit

  • The Fifty-Nine Signature Edition in Need for Speed: The Run is based on the debut 2012 McLaren MP4-12C GT3 race car model. It was unveiled at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
  • The MP4-12C utilises the engine sound of the Koenigsegg CCX in Need for Speed: World.
