Race is a game mode featured in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) that involves a point to point sprint along a set route. These events are limited to a maximum of 8 racers, and the first racer to cross the finish line is the winner.
Racers are not given any equipment for usage during race events, but they can earn nitrous by performing dangerous driving maneuvers and interaction with other racers.
Finishing a race event will reward the player with a gold medal for a first place finish, a silver medal for second, and a bronze medal for third. Finishing a race in fourth or lower will not count as a completed event in the racer career.

Multiplayer[]
Race events can take place on any of the available multiplayer routes, and players are not given any equipment for multiplayer sessions.
Joining a multiplayer lobby for a race event will highlight the route, weather conditions, time of day, route distance, and current players. Once a session is locked, players will move to car selection which will be limited to a specific performance tier and racer faction cars.
The starting grid of a race event is arranged with racers having a lower wanted level placed closer to the front and higher bounty rank racers being placed nearer the back.
Players can earn bounty as they race along the set route of the event, and additional bounty is awarded based on their finishing position at the end of the event. The amount rewarded is based on the player's finish position and number of total participating players for that session.
