[edit] Plot

The plot of the game involves where the hero is a undercover police officer working for the Tri-City police department and has to bring down a international crime ring run by Chau Wu. Through out the story the hero is aided by inspector Chase Lihn. As the hero moves through the story the hero takes down the street bosses like Nickel, GMac, and the Maio brothers. At the end the player finds out that Chase was the real villain since she frames him for murdering Chau Wu for his cell phone which has data containing the shipment in it. The hero in the end goes after Chase and she is arrested with the help of Lt. Keller. At the end the hero is seen talking to Carmen Mendez who was with one of the bosses in the game. In the PS2 and Wii versions Carmen speaks to the hero during the takedown mission involving Chase and mentions that she finds Hector, Zach, Nickel, Rose and GMac's bodies in the warehouse which confirms that Chase killed them too.

[edit] Pursuit System

Returning in Need for Speed: Undercover is the pursuit system. The game features similar Police Cruisers and choppers, but there are new police cars (a hybrid mix between the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang, Nissan GT-Rs and Porsche 911 Turbos). The pursuits will be more difficult than Carbon and Most Wanted.

  • Level 1-2: Police Cruisers
  • Level 3-4: Muscle Cruisers
  • Level 5-6: Nissan GT-Rs
  • Level 7-8-9: Porsche 911 Turbos and Rhinos

In Wii and Playstation 2 Versions, their are Similar Police Cruisers, Undercover Cruisers (similar to Most Wanted and Carbon) and similar Police Helicopter. There are new Police Cars (Ford Mustang GTs, Lamborghini Gallardos and Porsche 911 GT2s, Similar Rhinos appear sometimes). The Nintendo DS and Playstation Portable versions has the Dodge Charger SRT-8 as the Police Cruisers, the Playstation Portable version also has the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR as a police car, the Nintendo DS and Playstation Portable versions also has the Ford Mustang GTs as the State Units just like in the PS2 and Wii versions, instead of a Lamborghini Gallardo or Nissan GT-R as a Super State Cruiser the BMW M3 E92 is a red unmarked unit and the Nintendo DS and Playstation Portable versions also has the Porsche 911 GT2 just like in the PS2 and Wii versions of the game. In Challenge Series, few pursuit Challenges had Dodge Vipers as Police cars only In Wii and Playstation 2 Versions but aren't from Career mode and not driven by Players and their only at less 1, 2 or 3 Police Vipers (only at the start of the Challenges) which are found in some of the Pursuit Challenges Silver and Gold Which only happens in Challenge Series.

[edit] Leftover data

A lot of members in the NFS community with tools have discovered some left over textures from the Police Civic Cruiser from Need for Speed: Carbon which was the Palmont Police Department markings in the textures bin file for the PC version while the vinyl for the Tri-City Bay version is in the Liverly Vinyls bin file in the Vinyls folder. Also during a cut scene in one of the driver missions in the PS2 and Wii versions of the game the markings of the Police Civic Cruiser are those of the Palmont police instead of Tri-City Bay's on the car. Lots of leftover data from Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Carbon are present in the PS2 and Wii versions of the game including some of the areas like the draw bridge in Sunset Hills is similar to the bridge in Rosewood which is used to help the player escape Cross and the Federal Agents at the end of Most Wanted, car washes, the Sunset Hills stadium being similar to Rosewood's stadium, and the tunnel based garage in Port Crescent similar to the one in Camden. The police helicopter from Most Wanted and Carbon with the way the helicopter behaves in Most Wanted is reused in the PS2 and Wii versions. The traffic ambulance from Most Wanted and Carbon is also present in the game but its retextured as a police van that the player has to take out in a mission to rescue a prisoner from it. Also present in of the bin files from the PC version are the traffic car rim textures from Most Wanted and the PS2 and Wii versions also reuses the same traffic cars from Most Wanted and Carbon as well.

  • The PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions mulitplayer modes are online while offline versions exist in the Wii version for its party play mode.
  • The PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions has a new police helicopter that joins in chases and doesn't swoop down on players like in Most Wanted and the PS2 and Wii versions of the game. The helicopter in the PS2 and Wii versions is recycled from Most Wanted and Carbon and behaves the same way as it does in Most Wanted.

In the Nintendo DS version Zack Maio doesn't appear in that version and his role is given to Nickel along with Rose do not work along side GMac. Rose acts on her own while Nickel works along side Hector. Chau Wu isn't killed by Chase Linh but rather is busted by the player. The cutscenes that are present in the next gen console and PC versions are also in the DS version but in the form of pictures. The Wii and PS2 versions has the cutscenes rearranged for different missions like the scene where Nickel calls the player for a rematch race is used before the takedown mission involving him.

  • The mission where the player has to steal the Super State Unit in the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions which is a Nissan GTR the player has to invade the police and get the car back to GMac's garage without damaging the car. While in the PS2 and Wii versions the player has to not only avoid the police but also use the stolen cruiser which is a Lamborghini Gallardo to bust to 2 criminals for GMac and then take the car back to their safe house.
  • The car that is stolen from Chau Wu differs too in the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions it is a BMW M6, while in the PS2 and Wii versions its a Porsche 911 GT2, and the Nintendo DS version its a Nissan 350Z.
  • The chase down mode for the PS2 and Wii versions differs from the PSP version its unlocked after beating Hector Maio while in the PSP version it has to be unlocked after being the game its under the boss fight menu.
  • The big box console and PC versions have takedown missions which are done with the career car where as the Nintendo DS version has Criminal Scramble and All-Points based missions which are similar to the takedown missions instead of doing with the career car they are done with police cars.
  • The PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions have more cars than the PS2, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP, Mobile Phone and iPod Touch versions.
  • The PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo DS and PSP versions of the game has Hector Maio and his crew based out of Palm Habor, while the PS2 and Wii versions has them based out of Sunset Hills, Also in the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo DS and PSP versions of the game has GMac and his crew based out of Sunset Hills while in the PS2 and Wii versions they are based out of Port Crescent. The Tri-City bay area maps in the PS2, and Wii versions different from their PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo DS and PSP counterparts.
  • When driving the police cars in the PS2 and Wii versions in chase down mode unlike their AI counterparts they do not get damaged.
  • The PS2 and Wii versions also has the SMS text messaging system from Most Wanted and Carbon which is absent from the other versions.
  • The damage in the PS2 and Wii versions is similar to Most Wanted, Carbon and the PS2 and Wii versions of ProStreet, while the damage of the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions is similar to the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions of ProStreet.
  • The PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions has pink slip cars where as they are absent in other versions of the game.
  • The PS2, PSP, and Wii versions of the game has the unique/specially-designed bodykit for the Porsche 911 GT2 (Rose's car). In the PC version, Rose's 911 GT2 is the only one equipped with it and can't be equipped in any other 911 GT2s. However, a blueprint of Rose's GT2 with the bodykit can be downloaded for PC; but the car's name is Porsche 911 Turbo instead.
