Each Skill Mod has a four tier rank of either one star, two star, three star or four star rating with higher ranks giving improved results. Some Skill Mod ratings may have a slightly higher of lower value within each star rating. Each mod initially had only three tier ranks but a fourth was introduced with the application of the December 13th, 2012 patch.
Skills Mods were unveiled in a post on the Need for Speed: World website on May 29th, 2012. Thirty Skill Mods were introduced as a means of replacing Driving Skills as players that reached the level 50 cap became unable to alter their driver's skill attributes.
Players that had already applied points to their Driver Skills were given corresponding Skill Mods relating to their currently implemented Driver Skills. The amount of given Skill Mods was capped at a maximum of 125.performance parts. The amount of given performance parts was capped at a maximum of 50 but were spread amongst each car tier.
Players are able to equip up to five Skill Mods at once to a car. Each skill can be stacked with the exact same skill for a combined effect on the car although each has a maximum allowance. The effects of the combined skills on a car is displayed within the Skill Workshop section of the player's safehouse under the header - "Skill Effects".
A Skill Mod cannot be removed and placed on another car after it has been applied but can instead be sold for in-game cash.
Skill Mods can be won from the Lucky Draw upon completing events such as Circuit, Sprint, Pursuit, Team Escape and Treasure Hunt although the Treasure Hunter skill as well as the Heavy Mass skill are an exception to this. Skill Mods can also be purchased from Card Packs which cost SpeedBoost. 1 Star rating Skill Mods can be purchased for in-game cash through the store within the Skill Workshop.
