The Cam Shaft is a performance part featured in Need for Speed (2015).

The Cam Shaft is a strut that operates the poppet valves that allows the fuel-air mixture to enter the combustion chamber and exhaust gases to leave. The camshaft features various lobes protruding from the centre that forces each valve open as it spins. The camshaft can be found within either the cylinder head or engine block.

  • OHV (Overhead Valve) - An engine with a camshaft inside the engine block. Sometimes referred to as a pushrod.
  • SOHC (Single Overhead Cam) - An engine with a camshaft inside the cylinder head with 2 valves per cylinder.
  • DOHC (Double Overhead Cam) - An engine with two camshafts inside the cylinder head with 4 valves per cylinder. One row for intake valves and another for exhaust valves.

Aftermarket cam shafts can alter the timing, duration, lift, and position of the valves to allow for greater performance gains.
