Neon trim

Neon refers to a visual vehicle modification featured in the Need for Speed series.

Neon is an inert noble gas used alongside other noble gases in fluorescent lighting to create a wide spectrum of colours. Tubes of neon or other noble gases can be placed in high voltage discharge tubes to create a wide assortment of differing colours.

Neon tubes can be placed along various areas of a car to create distinctive glowing lights. Different mixtures of noble gases such as; Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton and Xenon are combined to create a wide assortment of alternatively coloured lights.

Equipping neon does not affect a vehicle's performance but will raise the star rating of a vehicle.

Neon lighting first appeared in Need for Speed: Underground with a later appearance in Need for Speed: Underground 2, Need for Speed: Underground Rivals, the Nintendo DS release of Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City and in Need for Speed: World.

Need for Speed: Underground

Neon can only be placed beneath a car's main body in Need for Speed: Underground.

Need for Speed: Underground 2

Players can equip neon lights under a car's body, under the hood and inside the trunk in Need for Speed: Underground 2. Placing a neon bar in the trunk of a car requires the player to purchase a custom trunk layout.

Placing neon lighting under a car's hood requires a heavily modified engine. Equipped neon lighting can also be set to pulsate on and off.
