The Porsche 911 (996) replaced the 993 in 1997 and was made available with a series water-cooled flat-six engines from Porsche. Also notable for the 996 was its new body shell, which was no longer based on Ferdinand Porsche's original design.
It also significantly increased in size to improve driving comfort. The Carrera RS model was dropped in this generation.
Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
Edit
The Porsche 996 featured in Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed is superior in performance to the 993 and is often considered as one of the easiest cars to drive in the game.
The 996 is offered as Carrera and Carrera 4 version, available as a coupe or cabriolet. The AWD versions are said to handle better than their RWD counterparts.
