The Porsche 911 GT2 (996) is the second generation model of the Porsche GT2. The 996 GT2 was produced from 2001 to 2005 and was first revealed at the 2000 North American International Auto Show.
Like all other 996 generation 911 models, Porsche replaced the air-cooled flat-six engine from the 993 GT2 with a water-cooled version.
For model year 2003, Porsche equipped the GT2 with 18 inch 10 spoke alloy rims from the 996 GT3 and improved its performance capabilities. Unlike the 993 GT2, the 996 GT2 was no longer manufactured in limited quantities.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
A white Porsche 996 GT2 will be unlocked after the player successfully completes every event within the Challenge Series. It cannot be purchased nor be driven in career mode through normal gameplay.
A black GT2 with aftermarket rims is made available in the Black Edition release of Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
The 911 GT2 in general has a very good and responsive handling but reaches a lower top speed than other cars within its performance range. Due to its light weight, it can be useful in most race events in Need for Speed: Most Wanted, but is almost useless in police pursuits.
Need for Speed: World
Apart from the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 and 911 Turbo, the GT2 has a less precise steering than any other 911 featured in the game. Still, its acceleration is on the same level as the Carrera S. The GT2 also has a powerful nitrous boost. Top speed is 216 mph (348 km/h).
